We have 31 days left, just one month left in the first round. The first two months have already produced spectacular results, and we're hoping to see a great race to the end of the round. Get those nominations in for them to count for this round, but remember that any nominations that are not promoted before the end of this round, will still count for round two if you make it. We unfortunately had another contestant, What!?Why?Who?, withdraw this week and we wish them the best.
We saw some big jumps in content upgrades this week! We saw 33 new good articles, 3 new featured articles and lists, 8 featured pictures, 5 featured sounds, and 24 did you know items. (Also note, there are 111 good articles and 222 did you know items as of this newsletter). Keep it up during the final push to round two. GARDEN, iMatthew // talk, and TheHelpfulOne

Are you any good with templates? If you are, could you come to the Simple English Wikipedia and try to fix the problem with simple:Template:Infobox Settlement please? Thanks, Razorflame 01:29, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, something is definitely wrong with it, but I'm not good enough with templates to figure out what the problem is. It's a very complex template, and it's probably just missing a syntax character of some kind. Did it ever work before? If so, I'd recommend going back through its history and figuring out what changed. But, hey, it's good to hear from you again. Useight (talk) 01:39, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it used to work before...hmmm...and yes, it is good to talk to someone else as well. I'm probably not going to be very active on here as I got a load of stuff to do (currently editing three different wikis and doing other stuff XD), so I doubt that I will be on here much because of the amount of work that I have to do. Thanks, Razorflame 01:54, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind. I figured out that it was a problem with the template on the page, not the template itself. Cheers, Razorflame 01:56, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sweet. Nice work. Useight (talk) 01:57, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Closing the MFD - I was itching to do it myself, but since I participated I had to refrain. Wisdom89(T / C) 02:12, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, you had to refain, even though it was obvious where it was going. It was 13 to 0 in favor of keeping after five hours, good enough for me. Useight (talk) 02:19, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Lots of strange drama going on lately - a little too much for my taste. For some reason, Pedro's talk page seems to be a beacon for it : ) Wisdom89(T / C) 02:20, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, no kidding, there's been some interesting stuff going on. I haven't really been participating or even hardly commenting on much of it, because I've been voraciously trying to finish my NFL Project, but I've been watching it on the back burner. I presume you've seen the attempted recall of MBisanz that's currently going on? Useight (talk) 02:25, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I caught it earlier on in the day. I didn't feel compelled to participate because I would have ended up repeating what had already been said. Just rolled my eyes and moved on. The developments that grew out from that discussion are quite astonishing. Wisdom89(T / C) 02:28, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I want to learn more about the areas of anti-vandalism, and how I could get really involved in more important work in WP.Gearsof War2 07:43, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please remember to mark your minor edits as minor. It's only fair to the other WikiCup contestants. (See [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7] for some examples). iMatthew // talk // 00:09, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I still wouldn't consider adding a template to be a minor edit. I guess I missed the line at Wikipedia:Minor#When_to_mark_an_edit_as_minor, "Fixing layout errors." From here on out, any layout-related edit will be marked as minor. And, in an attempt to even things out, I will mark my adding of templates as minor as well. Useight (talk) 00:35, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As you can tell from Juliancolton's assessment here, I have a history of marking minor/major differently than others would. Believe me, I wasn't trying to get an unfair advantage, I've always been indecisive as to when to check that box. Useight (talk) 00:51, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Man I was just reading some of the questions that Bettia had to answer at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Bettia 2, man I would have been stumped. I need help memorizing and learn more of Wikipedia's guidelines.Gearsof War2 03:37, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You may want to start with List of Policies, it is fairly comprehensive. Perhaps also try User:Useight/Helps, there are a lot of policy pages listed under "Important Pages" there. For help memorizing them, though, hmmm, perhaps if you can chat on gmail or Skype we can talk about them in real time which may help you cement them in your head. Or if you are confusing the alphabet soup of acronyms, perhas flash cards could be of assistance. Useight (talk) 06:06, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your sentiment regarding my recent failed RfA. You provided probably one of the most useful pieces of constructive criticism in the whole RfA. I'm only sorry that everyone else felt they needed to copy it. Believe me that I'll be working on improving my skills on Wikipedia in the next few months (although I may not ditch Huggle entirely), and when the time is right, I'll apply again. When that day comes, I hope I can get a "support" !vote out of you this time! Thanks, Matt (talk) 07:53, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here. It's only mainspace contributions are vandalism. It is alleging that it is the reincarnation of at least one previous username, possibly two or more. It's possible that they should be all blocked. Enigmamsg 03:13, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is my assessment: he originally created User:Adrian denton and used it for one edit, to his userpage, in 2007. He then forgot his password and created User:Adrian Alej and made 23 edits to his userpage. It appears he forgot that password as well, and created User:Tournament Wrestling, which he used to alter the userpages of both previous accounts. He also made two questionable edits to Vince McMahon. Since the first two accounts are no longer being used, I file this under Wikipedia:Sock#Clean_start_under_a_new_name, perhaps an accidental fresh start, as he no longer remembers previous passwords. Since the first two accounts were used only in userspace, I see no breach of the sockpuppetry policy -- he did not vote stack or otherwise circumvent policy. Due to there being no breach of sockpuppetry policy, I see no reason to block the two now unused accounts, although I suppose justification could be made. Regarding the account he is actually using, User:Tournament Wrestling, he has made two edits to the mainspace, but the second was actually fixing his first. For this fact, I will decline to indef block as a vandalism-only account. Useight (talk) 06:41, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the edits to Vince McMahon were vandalism. I don't see how he fixed anything. He added factually incorrect information. When a user is preoccupied with userspace and its only edits to the mainspace damage it... I guess we'll wait and see. Also, it seems he is indicating he wants the old userpages deleted. Enigmamsg 06:49, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed the edits to Vince McMahon did not fix anything. But I think a vandalism-only block would be a little harsh for one instance of vandalism, especially considering he did not vandalize again after that warning you left. And indeed you are correct regarding what usually happens when editors are preoccupied with userspace. But I can't justify blocking him based on what he has done so far. Although I think I will go delete that userpage. Useight (talk) 06:56, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's safe to say that this week is probably your last chance to nominate anything for promotion to count in this round, so start planning that all-important final push. Bear in mind that anything not promoted this month will still count in the next round if you go through. It's looking very close in the Wildcards section, so if you don't see yourself there, don't panic—you may not be too far off the pace! GARDEN, iMatthew // talk, and TheHelpfulOne

Have answered your query on the page, but have included my answer for convinience here:
Apologies, I was using a term I thought more formal and thus appropriate. It was in a library, which I have made sure I no longer use while using my laptop, so there should not be any problems, and my account has not been compromised by anyone in terms of them having knowledge of my password etc.
Oops. Sorry about that. Menti and I have kinda been stalking the page, and we both got fairly excited when we saw you switch. Thanks for your support. :-) Hersfold(t/a/c) 06:54, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if you would be willing to coach me in my interest of becomming an administrator. I was referred to you by Bibliomaniac15. Thanks a lot beforehand. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 01:30, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it depends on what you want/expect from a coach. If you're looking for someone to say "Go comment on 10 AFDs" or other such assignments, I'm not your guy. If you're looking for someone to give you the ten steps to pass an RFA, I'm not your guy. But if you want someone who can show you the ins and outs of Wikipedia; give you pointers and suggestions; and teach you procedure, protocol, and policy, I'm the guy. I call it "editor coaching" rather than "admin coaching" because the point isn't to teach you how to pass an RFA, but rather how to become a knowledgeable and well-rounded Wikipedia. Will this editor coaching result in me nominating you for adminship? Probably not. I do not nominate many people. I guess I'd be more of your karate master rather than your professor. I'd probably start by asking you want part(s) of Wikipedia you like to and/or want to work on and then go from there. I would also give you a very thorough editor review to see where you can improve. If this is the kind of coaching you'd like, let me know and we'll begin. Otherwise, you'll probably have to wait until Bibliomaniac15 has an opening. Useight (talk) 05:07, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like the in and out type help. That all depends on what you find in the editor review process. If you don't think that I need much improvement, I will wait until Bibliomaniac15 has an opening. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 00:33, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I will give you an in-depth review. I highly doubt it will happen tonight because I'm already exhausted. I had to get up at 5am in order to fix my car so I could make it to work at 7. I only plan to edit for another thirty minutes or so then spend a couple of hours with my girlfriend before crashing for the night. But the review is priority one after I get off work tomorrow. Useight (talk) 00:54, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, sorry about that. I've been extraordinarily busy for the last little while, but I'll will respond to that message within a couple of hours. Useight (talk) 22:24, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With Candlewick and Gary King in my pool, my only hope is one of the wildcard spots too - hell we did it last time, we can do it again :) I've got an interesting Wikicup dilemma, I got a DYK credit during the interregnum between round 1 closing and round 2 beginning - I wonder if I can submit it for this round or not? Good luck for this round. Cheers, Paxse (talk) 01:10, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if each of the top-scoring individuals from the last round perform relatively the same this round, the six pool winners would be Shoemaker's Holiday, Mitchazenia, Theleftorium, Gary King, Durova, and Scorpion0422 (who happen to be the six highest scorers of the first round). That leaves high scorers number seven through twelve to take the six wildcard spots, theoretically. If that happens, the wildcards would be Candlewicke, Matthewedwards, Juliancolton, me, Sasata, and you. However, I will not score as many points this round as I did in the first -- I have a job and a girlfriend now that I didn't have for a vast majority of the first round. But, she'll be gone for the second month of Round 2 visiting family, this will give me more free time in the evenings (we will be chatting via webcams). Plus, I've come a long way in finishing my NFL-related articles, so I don't have nearly as much work planned that I can work on. And good luck to you, too. Useight (talk) 01:24, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Belated congratulations on getting the job - glad to hear you're employed again. Also congrats on getting a girlfriend haha! that should finally keep you busy and let me get ahead! <cough> Cheers, Paxse (talk) 14:37, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What a brilliant finale to Round 1. With so little in it it was always going to be a tight contest, particularly in the all-important wildcard places. Congratulations to all those who have made it to Round 2, and commiserations to all who have been eliminated. I hope you continue to contribute as fully as you have been in the tournament, if not better!
As has been stated before, Round 2 begins Wednesday, April 1 2009. I hope you are all ready!

Delivered for the WikiCup by ROBOTIC GARDEN at 21:40, 5 April 2009 (UTC). To report errors see the talk page.[reply]
In the game Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, there are Anthropomorphic squid enemy guards identified as HP Squidcraft. I was wondering if that should be mentioned in the H.P. Lovecraft article under the headline Lovecraft's influence on culture.
I'm refraining from just adding it because every time I come to a article and try to add info, i run into a bad case of Forum Syndrome, where I get pulled into relentless debates that make the talk page seem more like a web forum.
I posted on the talk page, but there is no guarantee that I'll get a response in a timely manner. Yami (talk) 02:12, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm exhausted right now, but I will look into the situation tomorrow. Perhaps you'll have a response on the talk page by then, as well. Useight (talk) 04:46, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Still no response on that talk page; do you have any reliable sources for that information? Useight (talk) 22:50, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well there's a hints and cheats guide i know that says something about killing the HP squidcraft to advance.
other then that I'm not sure. I think i could get away with using a template similar to the one that solved the dragonball z thing a while back. I'm not sure if there is a game version though. Yami (talk) 03:56, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to take so long, I was at work. Regarding the first user's contributions, I'll decline to block. As for the second user, the report is stale at this point. Useight (talk) 22:49, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A DYK update is due, and it looks like none of the regular admins are around. Can you do it? Should be from queue 5. The picture has already been protected at Commons, so you don't need to worry about that. And I can do credits and archiving. Shubinator (talk) 00:03, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done, I think. You may want to check for any errors. Useight (talk) 00:14, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. Technically the DYKbotdo template shouldn't be in the queue when it's cleared, but it doesn't matter now since the bot is down. Thank you! Shubinator (talk) 00:18, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I will review your contributions so far and get back to you. Useight (talk) 22:15, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I have taken a light look into your work and I will accept the role of your coach. However, I do not "admin coach" in the traditional sense of the term. I will not make assignments for you to complete (i.e., "Go comment on X number of AFDs" or "Review X number of individuals at WP:ER"). What I will do is answer any and all of your questions about policies and procedures regarding any Wikipedia topic (you might want to ask someone else about images, though, because I stay out of that realm). I will also give you advice as to what to do in situations, help you find references, copyedit articles you're working on, help mediate disputes, introduce you to some people, help you find parts of Wikipedia that you may enjoy working on, etc. Also, I can nearly guarantee that I will not nominate you for adminship; this is for two reasons: I nominate an exceedingly few for adminship and I do not want the focus of this coaching to be me teaching you some "tricks" to get a successful RFA. If you will accept this kind of "editor coaching", let me know, otherwise, I wish you well in your search for an admin coach. Useight (talk) 15:16, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's great. I can do well with that. (And I know that adminship doesn't require "tricks" to be successful.) MathCool10Sign here! 17:10, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Could you tell me what user created HorseFace the first time? I recreated it and it was promptly deleted; I did the best I could but everyone seems sworn against it. Here it is as one of my subpages: User:Daniel Christensen/HorseFaceDaniel Christensen (talk) 00:30, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The article was originally created by User:1992nhoj, the account's only edit. The article's history contains seven edits (four by you, one by the original creator, and twice being tagged for deletion). The article has been deleted three times. Useight (talk) 07:17, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, and how do you find that out; who wrote a deleted article; I've tried very hard to find it but never can.
Also, it must be that Autoconfirmation was not necessary to write an article if that was they're only edit and, hahah, i know that kid and he said he amde it rite away. Now you have to have an account at least 3 days old with good edits (WP:autoconfirmation) in order to write an article. Daniel Christensen (talk) 16:02, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You need to be an administrator in order to see deleted content. For example, the article was originally created with this edit, but if you click that link you should get something like "Restricted to administrators". The first time I ran into one of those, I started poking around and found WP:RFA. Useight (talk) 16:10, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

... it will be a bloody miracle! I'm thinking about trying for my first GA, it's the only thing that will keep me in the running with my pool. I think I'll try with Koh Kong (town) - my first ever DYK. What do you think? potential GA material or not? I know I need to add some more to the article. Cheers, Paxse (talk) 06:26, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think it has GA potential, but it'll take some work. Some work that will get you some mainspace points along the way. As for me, I may keep working on getting Nintendo 64 to GA; it needs some more reliable references. But that won't happen until May sometime, if at all, when my schedule frees up. This article is chock full of BLP violations. It's been tagged for improvement for years and somehow survived an AfD. When I remove defamation, I get reverted. IMO, the article should be gutted and confined to cited material. In fact, individual descriptions should be avoided. Suggest article be made a stub. Can you warn this user for restoring defamation while claiming to "revert vandalism"? I gave an edit summary, too. Enigmamsg 15:57, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good call. Editor has been blocked for 48 hours for repeated insertion of BLP violation and personal attacks. Useight (talk) 22:11, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This account has had several strikes before, if you look at the history. Too bad it would've gotten away with it had it not launched a vicious personal attack for me simply for removing the defamation it was adding. Quite upsetting. I got accused of committing vandalism for removing unsourced negative material about living people, and then got personally attacked for removing it. If I had "power", as I was accused of having, that editor would be blocked indefinitely for its lengthy history of ignoring Wikipedia guidelines. :) Enigmamsg 00:41, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He's well on his way; if he keeps this up for much longer, he will end up indef blocked. Useight (talk) 01:01, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, so this is sort of a broad question, but how do you maintain a majority of edits to mainspace? Huggle edits mainspace while also editing User talk space. Manual edits takes too long. I currently have about the same number of mainspace, user, and user talk space edits. This will hinder me in my RFA. MC10|Sign here! 02:19, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Dear lord, manual editing? Who on earth does that anymore? ;) PeterSymonds (talk) 02:38, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Let's see, according to this, 64.65% of my edits are to the mainspace. And I do know that my last 17,000+ edits have all been manual. I see that you actually have more User Talk than Article edits, which, while not stellar, isn't the worst thing in the world. If you're looking to do more Article work, the trick is to find a topic in which you are interested, yet has large content gaps or many missing articles, and make and/or complete them. This method provides you with a bunch of various tasks to do on a subject that you are interested in -- this helps prevent burnout. You'll be able to edit much longer when dealing with topics you like. If you're looking to optimize your namespace ratios for RFA, there is no predefined perfect ratio, but I personally usually like to see the most-edited namespace be Article, followed by Wikipedia and User Talk (in either order), with User somewhere beneath that. But there are a lot more important characteristics I like to see in an admin candidate than editing each place the right number of times. See User:Useight/RFA Standards for further information. Also, I took a turn on the chess board on your userpage. Useight (talk) 04:20, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey how's it going? Are you still working on the spoken article recording for Pokemon? If not, let me know—I may be interested in doing it. — Levi van Tine (t – c) 17:50, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I am indeed working on it, but it has been slow going. I'm about halfway through. I can only work on it when there is nobody else in the house to avoid background sounds, but I'm hoping to have some time this week to churn through most of the rest. My method has been pretty slow -- I record one sentence at a time and listen to it afterwards to ensure there is no slurring, choppiness, background sounds, etc. Then I will splice all of them together with properly-sized pauses in between sentences. It's a work in progress still. Useight (talk) 17:57, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is just a quick reminder that the round ends this Friday, May 29, 2009.
I wanted to let you guys know the current standings. If you are very close, but not close enough, work as hard as possible these next two days. Pool leaders are listed as usual, and under the 10 wildcards, are competitors that are still fighting for a spot. Also, if you currently have any un-reviewed GAN's up and you'd like them to be reviewed and counted for this round, you must place them on the appropriate thread of the WikiCup talk page.
Hi all. Round 2 is officially over, and we're very pleased with the results. The lowest passing score was over 200! We are very impressed with the last minute pushes to get a spot, which many of you did through mainspace editing your butts off for the last week or so. We really hope that those of you who did a lot of mainspace editing this time around will take some of that and turn it into good and featured content next round.
The pools for Round 3 will be up soon; the round starts tomorrow, June 1, 2009. As always, nominations that were nominated last round but not passed yet, may count for this round. Hope to see you all working very hard, as you are down to the Top 16, and it's going to take a lot to make the Top 8!
Those of you who were eliminated and no longer wish to receive this newsletter may remove your name from this list. If you were eliminated, but are still looking for some fun editing competition, check out User:Shappy/Amazing Race Wikipedia which starts in July.

Increase awareness of readers of the existence of the outlines on Wikipedia
Complete the existing outlines
Create an outline for every subject that is exensive enough to benefit from having an outline (core subjects and major or extensive fields). There are thousands of these.
Recruit as many editors to work on these as possible (we need thousands of editors working on these)
Surpass portals in number by the end of the summer, and leave them in the dust by the end of the year
Get the major outline subject areas displayed on the Main Page (in place of or in addition to the portal links at the top of the page)
Increase the OOK to higher quality than Britannica's Outline of Knowledge (published in its Propaedia volume).
I was hoping you could comment on how to achieve the goals above.
Also I'm interested in every possible way of reaching readers and editors of Wikipedia. How can I get the most eyes and typing fingers on Wikipedia's outlines? Contacting editors directly without a reason relevant to them is spam, which I'd like to avoid. There are 75,000 regular editors on Wikipedia, and I want to contact all of them. So how do I do it? Directly or indirectly, I don't care which, piecemeal or all-at-once, all methods are fine with me. But I've got to find ways. I need your help.
I would also like to know how to find or attract editors to create new outlines. And I need advice on finding editors to help write the new outline article mentioned above (it needs to be fleshed out, completely referenced, and brought to featured article status).
Can you recommend anyone in particular who might be interested in sinking their teeth into a project like this? Or ways to reach groups of editors? Or ways to reach all editors? I welcome any and all advice you might have.
I know I've asked you before, and this is hopefully going to be the last time. Please mark edits like this as minor. It's a huge difference in points. 100 minors get one point in the cup, 10 regular edits get one point. It's really not fair to other contestants, so I really need you to mark your edits as minor when they are something simple like fixing a number or adding a template, etc. Thanks!
Maybe try getting some article points this round? :) iMatthew : Chat 20:57, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Typically when I fix the dates, it looks more like this, I just did that one like that for conformity's sake. Also, adding/removing templates should not be marked as minor, see Help:Minor_edit#When_not_to_mark_an_edit_as_minor. Also, I have no intention of competing after this round. I will either be withdrawing on June 19th or July 28th. If come the end this round, I'm in the top 8, consider this my formal withdrawal from the Cup before the round end in order to permit some other competitor into the next round. My on-wiki activity will drop drastically on the 19th of this month because my girlfriend will be back and town and she will be priority one. The WikiCup has been some external motivation for me to complete this as soon as possible. So, whether I'd be moving on to the "Elite Eight" or not, please withdraw me from the Cup immediately before this round ends. Useight (talk) 21:30, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So, should I withdraw you now? Sorry to hear this, though. :( iMatthew : Chat 21:40, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, not yet. I wouldn't want to withdraw at this point, then I would have just deprived Bedford from competing this round for no reason. I'd rather withdraw just before the end of this round in order to permit someone to take my spot if I should qualify for the next round. For now, I like having the external motivation for me to get my projects done sooner rather than later. But I expect that after June 18th, my activity will fall from ~100 edits to ~30 daily. I'll just have much less free time for at least awhile after my girlfriend returns. Don't worry; I'm not "threatening to withdraw" because of your comment above or whatever, I'm not that kind of person. I just won't have time and I figure I'll have most of my work done by the end of this round anyway, so it'd be better to let someone else go further in the Cup. As soon as I finish helping User:Sasata with his project, my energy will be going to getting Nintendo 64 to GA, which I really want to get done while I have the WikiCup to spur me along. Wow, what a big start to Round 3! We already have people past the 50 point mark, in one week. Turns out last week's newsletter was never sent out. Sorry about that! Since we already had it done, we are sending you both. This newsletter is the one for this week though. Anyway, we're seeing you guys working really hard. There are a few of you over 100 points in the first two weeks. Also, we have switched Ottava Rima from Pool D to Pool B, and Shoemaker's Holiday (who has withdrawn) from Pool B to Pool D. Scorpion0422 is more than likely to withdraw before this round ends, because he will be inactive next round. That would leave 2 contestants in Pool B. So, to make things fairly even, we have switched the two contestants. Sorry for all of the confusion!
Finally, we know it's very early, but you can already sign up for the 2010 WikiCup, here! We want to get everything ready way in advance for next year. So we opened the list up, and we'll start working things out in September/October, most likely. Information is all on the page, and you may leave any questions on the talk page. Some did well this week, but a lot of you didn't move much. Some are still hanging under the 200 mark. Our current top 8 are all over 200, so if you are below that line, get moving! There were a few mistakes in last weeks' newsletter. Apologies about that. In regards to the competition, a few of you shot up in points this week. Very, very impressive. However, now that some have shot up to the top, others of you have to work even harder to catch up! There are about 3 weeks left in the round, so if you're behind, now is really the time to start nominating content, so that it can count for this round. If you wait too long, we won't be able to hold off the round while your content is being reviewed.
Per this tiny poll, the remainder of the competition has been altered.. sorry!! The changes being made are as follows: "We will be combining the last three rounds. Round 4 will now last from August through September, with 8 contestants. On September 1st, however, we will eliminate the bottom four contestants. The top four contestants will continue the round with the same score. Then, one person will win out of the remaining four on September 30th." You can also see this change to the main WikiCup page.

Hello all, iMatthew here. I just wanted to let you know about "The Great Wikipedia Dramaout" which starts this Saturday. The goal of the Dramaout is to spend five days working on improving articles and abstaining from any of Wikipedia's drama. I don't think that any of you will have a problem focusing on articles for five days, because of course, any work you get done during the Dramaout will count towards your score in the WikiCup. Details are on the page; hope to see you all signing up! :) iMatthewtalk at 00:27, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do oyu ever think about retiring??--Theothershadow 22:35, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Someday I'll fall into the ranks of the retired Wikipedians, but I'm enjoying this hobby too much to give retirement any serious thought at the moment. Plus I still have a bunch of stuff I want to accomplish. Over the past few weeks I haven't been able to edit much; I've been extraordinarily busy, but I still check my watchlist consistently, so I'm still around. I currently have 54,000 edits, and based on my current level of enjoyment and the things I still want to accomplish, I fully expect to continue editing past the 75,000 mark. The round is over in about four days from now. Sit back, watch your nominations being reviewed, and hope for the best. In these four days, you don't have much control over your score. It's what you did prior to now, that's going to pile up your points (or not). We're very, very pleased with this round's results so far, and of course hoping to see some more submitted before the round ends.

Hi Useight/Archive15! An article you have been involved with has many issues and urgently needs improving. If you can help with these issues please see Talk:Evesham#Last call for Evsham, address the different points if you can, and leave any comments there.--Kudpung (talk) 13:36, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My only edit to that article was removing spam. I must apologize, but I've been extraordinarily busy the past while and will continue to be so for the forseeable future. I will be unable to assist on this article. Useight (talk) 22:25, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problems. It was a generic message sent to everyone who had made an edit.--Kudpung (talk) 22:54, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Right, last newsletter before the next round and it's a congratulations to eight of you lot. Unfortunately we say goodbye to a fair few users along the way but that is the competition. Next round, there will only be one pool which will see the lowest scoring users eliminated two months into the round. Should be good fun! Get your nominations in soon!

From the Judges
Apologies for not getting a newsletter out before this, but all of the judges happened to be away at the same time. Very impressive start of the round. Only sixteen days in, and our top four are already completely above 200 points. By the way, this is light red, not pink! :P

[8] Serves you right for being so disruptive ;) Grutness...wha? 22:53, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I figured someone would see that. I was showing someone what the admin interface looks like when I accidentally hit enter. That was unfortunate. Useight (talk) 04:41, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
