Micro:bit

Thanks for your additions to this article. I just have a query about your sourcing using mbed source which includes commentary like "The picture here is not the final micro:bit" - how can we be sure any or all of this technical info is up to date or reliable? --ℕ ℱ 20:44, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

I don't see that commentary on the linked page. Further, the mbed blog article cited was written after the public unveiling of the micro:bit and the author had specific knowledge regarding the production chip selections. The other two sources (the BBC video and the wired.co.uk article) published images of the final board and both show the SoC/processor chip in enough detail to read the chip markings to confirm that the micro:bit devices shown to the media do in fact use the nRF51822 SoC. mbed is the primary designer for this board and therefore has special standing regarding the details of its design.

Thanks for your response. The commentary is at the end of the first paragraph. There wasn't a date on the article which is why I queried. I'm just keen to ensure we keep the article robustly sourced with independent secondary sources, rather than getting a bit too caught up in primary source detailed stuff if you see what I mean. --ℕ ℱ 21:42, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

I agree that secondary sources are important and my contributions speak for themselves. When discussing pre-release hardware like the BBC micro:bit, however, secondary sources for the pinouts and technical details just don't yet exist. Even after micro:bits have been released to secondary sources for testing, the manufacturer's documentation is still typically the more reliable source of technical specifications.

I read the commentary that "The picture here is not the final micro:bit!" as applying to the picture itself and not the other information on the page. The fact that the author was careful enough to point that out implies a good deal of attention to detail.

that's sort of my point. If secondary sources don't exist, then that's quite a good argument for why maybe a less detailed article is appropriate at that stage. --ℕ ℱ 22:43, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

I added some text to indicate that the specs aren't quite final using Template:As_of in hopes that someone will notice and recheck on the off chance that something gets altered during final manufacturing.
