@Jtbobwaysf: As you suggested, I've created a copy of the Binance article here showing what I'm thinking could be changed or added. I used orange text to indicate where I've changed existing content, blue text where I've moved but not changed existing content, and green text for new content. I've tried to use mainstream financial news for sources as much as possible. Some changes have happened to the live article since I made this, and I've tried to keep up with adding the most significant. There's quite a bit here, so happy to discuss in small chunks or on the Binance Talk page, but thought I'd collect everything in one place.

  • Introduction: the introduction in the live article includes two paragraphs that are redundant to content in the Legal status section. I've looked into WP:LEAD and based on that, have proposed a replacement paragraph that summarizes the company's legal history.
  • I did not include sources here, since as I understand it the intro can paraphrase content that is verified elsewhere in the article.
  • Company overview: this is a new section where for now, I've added content on other Binance activities that aren't covered elsewhere in the article. I think this could include a consolidated summary on the company's operations, since the article is becoming quite long. If added, this could be a good place to have content about Binance's history of not having a headquarters.
  • Sources for Binance Labs:[1][2]
  • Sources for Binance incubator programs:[3][4]
  • I do have a TechCrunch article here, which I believe is original reporting from their staff. I am also what editors think of Tech in Asia as a source.
  • History: I've made a few changes here, detailed below:
  • I donated this photo of a Binance anniversary cake that's better quality than what's in the article now.
  • Added a sentence about Binance's NFT marketplace.
  • In the sentence that begins "In March 2022, amidst the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine" I included clarification from the article about Binance complying with international sanctions, and additional details on limiting service in Russia.
  • Based on this discussion on Talk:Binance, I have made changes to the portion in the history section that discusses WazirX. My changes replace the Insider Apps source with a Bloomberg article, and I believe provide a more accurate summary of the timeline, reason for the dispute, and current status. It also occurs to me that this is covered again in Legal status - India.
  • Updated "The company is also seeking registration in more European countries, such as Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal and Austria." to have evergreen language, and added outcome for Spain and Sweden.
  • In the paragraph that begins "Binance has a strong brand presence in Africa." I replaced vague language like "many" with more precise language.
  • Source (already used in the live article):[11]
  • Added a short paragraph on proof of reserves.
  • Binance coin: I changed Binance coin to "Build'n'Build" and BNB, since it has been rebranded. I also updated the number of validators, and added specification that Paxos issues BUSD
  • The change to Build'n'Build is already discussed and verified by sources in the live article.
  • Source for Paxos claim:[13]
  • Source for validators:[14]
  • BUSD: Took out "issued by Binance", which is inaccurate and changed the description of Paxos' reserves.
  • Legal status:
  • United States I noticed that in the live article, news about Richard Teng replacing CZ has been added in several places. I kept what was written here, since it seemed the most neutral and updated it to include Teng. No changes to sources here.
  • Japan: moved details about Sakura exchange here to keep similar information together. No changes to sources here.
  • Australia: added clarification that the license was canceled in response to a request from the company.
  • Added other countries where Binance has received approval or license to operate.
  • Sources:[18][9][10][19][20][21]
  • For Kazakhstan, the only source I could find on WP:RSP was TechCrunch, which I know does not have a green check, but thought it might be okay for a basic detail like this.

Looking forward to feedback and working with editors to continue to improve the article. Thanks, KB at Binance (talk) 11:40, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • This approach is helpful. Could you please put a source after each sentence for anything you are adding or changing. Also could you please use a different color for text that you have moved without making any change (this requires less review on other editors part). You might also post at the Binance talk page that you have these proposed edits so others can look as well. Thanks! Jtbobwaysf (talk) 12:50, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jtbobwaysf: Thanks! I have made a bunch of changes to my original post above. Note that I now have content I moved without changes marked with blue text. I also moved in content about Singapore, from Talk:Binance and tried my hand at another rewrite of the WazirX mention in History, which I realize there might have been some confusion about since that deal is also discussed in Legal status - India. Anyways, I really appreciate your guidance and feedback on all of this. I will make a post on Talk:Binance, too. Looking forward to discussing these changes more. @Jtbobwaysf: Hi, I made a change in the sandbox and wanted to let you know in case you're in the midst of reviewing. I saw that in the live article, an editor added "Headquarters: Unknown" to the infobox. I thought that might be a bit confusing to readers, so in my draft I've changed this to "Headquarters: Distributed", which I hope is clearer. Open to hearing your thoughts! Thanks, KB at Binance (talk) 16:26, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
