- Thank you for this message of encouragement. I'm glad to be of service. I'm not sure how I would type a tilde, but I shall try to ensure I'm visible for correction and pats on the back! I have just modified the WP page on Marque (musician), although the authority for the added information seems circular (it cites the WP page itself). Tell me, are there standard templates for the sort of information given on, say, a musician (or a king, or a corporation etc.)? I looked in various model repositories offered on the edit page, but saw nothing with the obvious title "background information", the style used on a number of musicians' pages. - As far as I am aware we do not have formal article templates segregated by subject matter - just a generic one. Also, the cite to Wikipedia should be removed or, preferably, replaced with a different source. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 00:39, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks Jéské. The citation is not of a WP page (there's an additional cross-reference to the page explaining what Discogs is, whose page on the musician offers the additional info on his birth name, place and date). Rather, that website simply states that the musician has an entry in WP, the subject of the amendment. Therefore, the information is attested by unimpugned 3rd-party source, which itself happens to contain information about the WP page. Each *cites* the other, but only WP *relies* on Discogs; Discogs *does not rely* on WP, merely *informs* of its existence. If I sought attestation of a fact contained in encyclopaedia A by checking in encyclopaedia B, is that information impugned if encyclopaedia B goes on to say "There exists information on this subject contained in encyclopaedia A", as opposed to "Our information *draws on* information contained in encyclopaedia A"? Nonetheless, the search for additional 3rd-party attestation is ongoing. Jeepvee (talk) 03:15, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
- I reverted your insertion at Marque (musician). The chart seems to be sufficient to establish notability, but none of the biographical information comes from a reliable source. Discogs can be used in limited ways, but Discogs biographies are considered user-generated content and cannot be used as a source for BLP material. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 05:14, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
