Bot blanking[edit]

Hi Jayden54, this bot left a notice of AfD nomination on a user's page, but blanked what was already there. See this diff. Robotman1974 22:15, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notification, and I've fixed the problem. I've also put the bot in assist mode which means I will check every edit. Cheers, Jayden54 22:47, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possible bug with 2nd etc AfD noms?[edit]

This diff points at the fist AfD, but the current AfD is the third, here. It's also doubled up the notification. Regards, Mr Stephen 14:18, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know about this problem. I've fixed the cause of the double notification (my bot had the link as Gerald_del_Campo, so it didn't detect the previous notification). I haven't fixed the multiple noms problem yet, but I will get it done before the next time the bot runs. The main problem is the template I use {{AFDNote}} which doesn't support multiple noms. I think I'll just create my own template for the bot. Cheers, Jayden54 16:40, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to help. Good luck with the bot. Regards, Mr Stephen 22:08, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

God..[edit]

Deleting my wap page n lot.. >.<

SPURA[edit]

The editor did it without really looking, and just chalking it up to an ad ploy. The facts on the article are there and they are, indeed, facts. I have used the SPURA talk page and the delete page as well. Thank youJuda S. Engelmayer 16:21, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

cosmetic suggestion[edit]

The bot currently suggests people sign their comments with ˜˜˜˜ but this is very hard to read, at least on win2k, where it looks like a tiny checkerboard line. It could use ~~~~ instead, which comes out in a different, larger font for reasons I can't fathom. — coelacan talk — 01:38, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Coelacan, thanks for the suggestion, and I've changed the {{AFDNote}} template, which this bot uses. Cheers, Jayden54 15:19, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool bot! Expand it for SD too?[edit]

Last week I had an article mysteriously vanish. It turns out that it was incorrectly SD'd. While wondering about future fixes for this type of situation, I found out about your AfD warning bot. So... how hard would it be to create a copy of Jayden54Bot which produces similar announcements for Speedy Deletions? (See also bot request page) --Wjbeaty 06:59, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message, and I think it's a great idea! I've gone into more details on the bot request page. Cheers, Jayden54 15:43, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

bot had an unresolved edit conflict?[edit]

Where article creator has already contributed to the AfD discussion[edit]

The link above is also an example of a time when the article creator had already posted to the AfD discussion. Perhaps your Bot could check for this and only notify those who might be unaware that an AfD is taking place? WJBscribe 15:29, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

== What's up!!!!!!!!!!!

What is your problem deleting my masterpiece, the emerald city miracle. It is an acceptable piece in football lore. I will nominate your articles to be deleted!!!Mezlo 13:18, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is wonderful[edit]

I noticed that you (I guess I'm really addressing this to the developer of the bot) sent notices regarding an AfD to all editors of the article. I believe that this what should be done to assure notice and fair process in AfD's. I have done this manually before. I have been (wrongly) criticized for WP:CANVASS for this. Do you get similar criticism? Will the bot do this for all AfD's from now one or does it only operate sometimes? If so, when? I think this is a great piece of wiki magic. Please reply to my question is at all possible. Edivorce 15:11, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a few moments and fill in the data for your bot on Wikipedia:Bots/Status Thank you Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 19:35, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

source code[edit]

Hey... nice bot! I'm interested in making a bot (see my comment here... feel free to help if you can), and I was wondering if you could publish your source code so I can see how you created the bot. Thanks! -- eykanal talk 15:53, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dulicate AfD notifications[edit]

Having left an AfD notification at User talk:Akkiiii, I was a bit surprised to see that your bot had just added a duplicate (I've deleted it now). Any chance of fixing it so that it only leaves such a message if the AfD nominator omitted to do so? --Mel Etitis (Talk) 16:45, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Automated message to bot owners[edit]

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 03:04, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Linking to a disambig page[edit]

A minor point: your bot seems to (as of a recent edit[1]) to be linking to WP:SIGN, which redirects to Wikipedia:SIGN, which is itself a disambiguation page for WP:POST and WP:SIG. Could you kindly change the bot's template to use WP:SIG and point it more directly at the intended page? Thanks. --Gwern (contribs) 05:53 22 February 2007 (GMT)
