Hello, JackFromReedsburg

Thank you for creating Housing in the United States.

User:Doomsdayer520, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Thank you for starting this new article, but it feels woefully incomplete. It is a large topic but only has one brief paragraph on how to build a house, then some stats about homelessness. To be honest, the point of this article is tough to pin down.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Doomsdayer520}}. Please remember to sign your reply with ~~~~ .

Response to the withdrawal of the edition of the article "Wikipedia: Link rot"

Dear Mr. JackFromReedsburg,

Thanks for your welcome to Wikipedia.

I am writing in connection with reject my edition of article 'Wikipedia:Link rot'.

I wonder what better archive sites are there than Internet Archive, which:

  • you can search by typing the url of the page you want to browse free, also at home,
  • accept multiple archiving requests of any web pages for free,
  • ensure the long availability of their resources:
  • theoretically, because that's their mission,
  • practically because:
  • they are not a commercial entity, but have (fairly) reliable (and different) sources of funding,
  • if they are a commercial entity, they plan to donate the files to someone who will keep them for a long time.

If you know such archives, I would be grateful if you could write them all for me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

--Failure9x (talk) 14:39, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Failure9x:, while I do agree that the Internet Archive is a very good archive, it is not the only one. A list is available here: Wikipedia:List of web archives on Wikipedia. Now for your edit, the bullet point right above that lists the major web archiving sites, so I find it redundant to list them again. --JackFromReedsburg (talk | contribs) 14:54, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

May 2021

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at May 10 shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Toddst1 (talk) 15:55, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Toddst1: my bad, i was working in the pending changes backlog and wasn't fully aware of your WikiProject's standards (regarding section subheadings). I won't revert again, and apologize for making the mistake. Have a good day and happy editing. JackFromWisconsin (talk | contribs) 20:02, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ideas for Wisconsin Wikipedia Pages

Hello JackFromWisconsin,

I also happen to hail from the Badger State, and was curious as to what areas related to Wisconsin you enjoyed writing about or researching in particular. I personally would like to write an article about Cycling in Wisconsin as there are articles about biking in other U.S. states and countries, but I don't believe one yet exists for Wisconsin. It's always great to bounce ideas off of others.

Best, Wiscipidier (talk) 19:34, 20 October 2021 (UTC)Wiscipdier[reply]

Hello Wiscipidier! I have lately been working on general articles on Wisconsin (Geography of Wisconsin and Wisconsin dairy industry), and am now focused on Agriculture in Wisconsin. I do think Cycling in Wisconsin would be a good article to write on the state. Much of it would probably be focused on biking in major cities, and the various bike trails in the state. I really enjoy meeting other Wisconsin editors and being able to collaborate on this big project. --JackFromWisconsin (talk | contribs) 20:12, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Geography of Wisconsin

On 16 November 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Geography of Wisconsin, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that glaciation in Wisconsin 17 thousand years ago helped create its unique geography? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Geography of Wisconsin. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Geography of Wisconsin), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

New page reviewer granted

Hi JackFromWisconsin. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. ~TheresNoTime (to explain!) 05:52, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:59, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2022 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the WikiCup. Last year anyone who scored more than zero points moved on to Round 2, but this was not the case this year, and a score of 13 or more was required to proceed. The top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, a finalist last year, who led the field with 1906 points, gained from 32 GAs and 19 DYKs, all on the topic of New York buildings.
  • Christmas Island AryKun, new to the contest, was second with 1588 points, having achieved 2 FAs, 11 GAs and various other submissions, mostly on the subject of birds.
  • Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132, a WikiCup veteran, was in third place with 682 points, garnered from 51 In the news items and several DYKs.
  • Philadelphia GhostRiver was close behind with 679 points, gained from achieving 12 GAs, mostly on ice hockey players, and 35 GARs.
  • United Nations Kavyansh.Singh was in fifth place with 551 points, with an FA, a FL, and many reviews.
  • SounderBruce was next with 454 points, gained from an FA and various other submissions, mostly on United States highways.
  • United Nations Ktin, another WikiCup veteran, was in seventh place with 412 points, mostly gained from In the news items.

These contestants, like all the others who qualified for Round 2, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews of a large number of good articles as the contest ran concurrently with a GAN backlog drive. Well done all! To qualify for Round 3, contestants will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two participants.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Anything that should have been claimed for in Round 1 is no longer eligible for points. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
