Hello Wikipedians,

As I mentioned on my userpage we've put together a RSS (file format) Feed so that anyone can get any Wikipedia topic via RSS. The feed was produced by me, parsed by Christian Roy and is hosted on my servers at BlinkBits. The feed is cached to prevent runtime queries of Wikipedia.

A few sites have asked me about indexing and or pulling these feeds so over the few months BlinkBits could have tens of millions of requests. I am doing my best to keep as many of these away from the Wikipedia servers so only about 600,000 should come through to wikipedia over this period of time and my aim is to have most of these come during low traffic periods of time.

The latest version validates but it still needs some formatting work on some wikipedia pages that use tables, images, etc... We'd love to improve upon this even more and publish it under an open-source license so let either of us know if you are interested in helping put the finishing touches on the feed.

The feed works for every topic in the following languages:

  • English - en
  • Dutch - nl
  • French - fr
  • German - de
  • Spanish - es
  • Italian - it
  • Swedish - sv

To use the feed just replace language and the topic_name with the exact wikipedia topic to the end of url.

Also, you can use this to track your own user profile and changes by using this file format.

Replace Blinklmc with your name...

All feeds also includes attribution back to wikipedia and the GNU comment so please do not use the feed without providing wikipedia proper attribution etc...

If you are a wikipedia sysops please let me know if you'd like to add the RSS feed to each of the topic pages or use it in some other fashion.

Request for advice 10:19, 30 November 2005[edit]

The Wikipedia RSS Feed project is going great. I'd like to make the RSS Feeds more widely available and list the RSS link on a few more pages besides the syndication pages. I don't want to upset other wikipedians so please let me know what you think about adding the following to the links section in a select number of articles...

The description I would use to describe the change would be something like... /* Add Wikipedia Special Export RSS Feed for Polar Bears */

I would say an easy no thanks. Your pages are easily available to those who bother to look for syndication feeds, rss, etc. You should incorporate them into WP:TOOLS, if they have not been already. I doubt many folks are watching this page, so I'd recommend asking this over at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals) or similar. here 19:15, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Or if u think it is to easy just let me know where to start...

RSS Feed for another User's Contribs?[edit]

Is this possible? I want to check when my buddy is active so I can write/comment on the articles he writes. He writes articles in the same genre as me. Tkjazzer 22:34, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Full revision history for articles in blinkbits feed[edit]

Is it possible to get the entire revision history through your blinkbits? I would need it for about 1000 random articles, for a research project...

Also, it looks like Wikipedia stopped dumping their all pages, all history xml dumps. Can you still update your project with real time data?

Jeffapartmentpedia[edit]

Is User:Jeffapartmentpedia a sockpuppet of yours? If so, you probably know better than to spam wikipedia, non? --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:54, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BlinkBits feeds not available[edit]

Hi, Due to the great popularity and usage of Blinkbits feeds, the server of BlinkBits faces problems since last few days. Before a few days the site was showing the message regarding same. Now request timeout occurs whenever it is tried to be browsed. As the site is not available, no forum/email address or any clue regarding the possible availability or schedule of the same is found. Can you please update the information regarding same here? I am sure a no. of users are looking for the same.

Thanks for the service provided via BlinkBits and your time. Gujaratiauthor (talk) 08:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
