Saudi Arabia[edit]
Arbitration Enforcement: Raise to Extended-Confirmed Protection because this article is related to the Arab-Israeli conflict. How is it that Israel-Saudi Arabia relations is Extended-Confirmed protected, but the article on Saudi Arabia is not? Especially considering the Normalization that was supposed to take place, between These two countries before October 7th. 70.50.199.125 (talk) 04:41, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. And your request answers your own question. Normalization is/was much more germane to the relations article than the article about the country as a whole. Daniel Case (talk) 20:13, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

- Declined – Pages are not protected preemptively. I see in the recent history some reverts recently. None of them are related to the current conflict; they appear to arise from legitimate discussions about particular sources' assessments or inclusions on the page (a page that gets viewed quite a bit for one not in article space).
I would only protect this page in a situation like the one two years which led to the only protection in the page history: where connected third-party actors are engaging in a concerted effort to alter our judgement on a source without any discussion here. Mughal Empire[edit]
Reason: Constant edit warring, particularly by user Malik-Al-Hind, but by IP users as well. The former user fails to stop reinstating edits which, on the talk page, (see Discussion 1 and Discussion 2) there have been discussions against adding such edits. I plan to start an RfC soon, and until that is over there should be full protection until any disputes have been settled, as was recently done on the Gupta Empire article when there was edit warring there. The current consensus reversion, as I recently restored to, is 1225352800. Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 22:03, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Since the article is already indefinitely semi-protected, as you might expect from one so close to the center of what makes a contentious topic area contentious, I ask you for clarification on what protection options you would like. Going to extended-confirmed protection wouldn't keep MaH from editing, as they already have that user right. If edit warring is the problem, perhaps we should go to ECP and 1RR ... I don't think anybody would question that on this article. What do you think? Daniel Case (talk) 22:15, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- I said in my above comment there should be full protection, which I think is appropriate temporarily until all disputes (the inclusion of "Hindustan" in the lead and the inclusion of "Indo-Muslim" in the lead) can be settled. Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 22:16, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- OK, I see you asked for full protection, but the way you want it would require doing it indefinitely, and we just don't full-protect articles indefinitely. And frankly, looking at the article history the problems go back longer than the current dispute. I'm thinking more and more that ECP/1RR, under CTOPS authority, is the best option. Daniel Case (talk) 22:18, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- That seems fine, I'll open two RfCs on the mentioned issues once that is added. Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 22:21, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Actually, could you expand on why temporary full protection is not possible here? There has been constant edit warring or disputes over what to include in the lead, and while I'm not saying fully protecting the page will fix it permanently, it will give time to discuss and settle the issues, and especially with an RfC, there can be consensus over whether or not to revert such edits in the case of future edit warring over similar matters. Current requests for reduction in protection level[edit]
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Current requests for edits to a protected page[edit]
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Israel–Hamas war[edit]
Change "Since the start of the Israeli operation, more than 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed,[86] including over 15,000 children and 10,000 women.[87][88]" to "Since the start of the Israeli operation, nearly 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed,[86] including over 7,000 children and nearly 5,000 women.[87][88]." This is based on the data recently revised by the UN, accessible here: https://www.ochaopt.org/content/hostilities-gaza-strip-and-israel-reported-impact-day-215. ConDissenter (talk) 21:21, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- Is there another place to request this change? The talk page for Israel-Hamas war is restricted as well. The current source for casualty data is palinfo.com, which describes itself by saying it "does not lay any claim to neutrality for it blatantly sides with the oppressed Palestinian people." https://english.palinfo.com/about-us/. Recognizing that reliable sources do not need to have a neutral POV, why should we use this as a source rather than a less biased source like the United Nations? ConDissenter (talk) 18:28, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- @ConDissenter Please go check Talk:Israel–Hamas war for earlier discussions and to see why your request is unlikely to succeed. FYI, the lower numbers refer not to the killed overall but to the killed who have additionally been identified by name. Besides, all the numbers are sourced to Gaza MoH anyway. — kashmīrī TALK 09:45, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply, Kashmiri. I recognize the data is all coming from the same place. (I've tried to access but can't find a reliable site for the Gaza Health Ministry to find the data directly, so I assume the UN is accurately presenting the data.) I agree it hasn't changed the total number killed which is why I didn't suggest a change to that -- beyond fixing the "more than" to "nearly" 35,000. But I don't see any basis for keeping outdated numbers on women and children. The old ratio was 72% and the new ratio was 52%. The talk page suggests we need to wait for more RS, but at this point there are plenty:
- https://www.npr.org/2024/05/15/1251265727/un-gaza-death-toll-women-children
- https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/13/middleeast/death-toll-gaza-fatalities-un-intl-latam/index.html
- https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/gaza-women-children-death-toll-1.7203167
- Is there any way to flag this for the editors of that page, even on the Talk page? ConDissenter (talk) 23:40, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
- The text of the article has now gotten worse. It says "Since the start of the Israeli operation, more than 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed, including over 15,000 children and 10,000 women. Over 10,000 others are missing and presumed trapped under rubble." This implies either that there are 45,000 killed total, or ALL of the 25,000 identified are women and children. I've been following Talk:Israel–Hamas war on this subject and the contributors seem to be talking at loggerheads. How is this supposed to work? Now the text of the article is at odds with most RS. E.g., https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/what-we-know-about-the-death-toll-in-gaza/ar-BB1mzqUT. ConDissenter (talk) 23:58, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- @ConDissenter Please go check Talk:Israel–Hamas war for earlier discussions and to see why your request is unlikely to succeed. I have created 80 articles, primarily focused on Sinophone cinema and fantasy literature, with 2 currently undergoing GAN. All of my articles have been promptly reviewed, and none of them have been deleted or marked for maintenance. I am requesting autopatrolled rights to alleviate the workload of the patrollers, especially those who actively review film articles and have reviewed the majority of my articles, allowing them to allocate more time to address articles that truly require attention. As a side note, I am a veteran editor with patroller rights on Chinese Wikipedia, having authored over 200 articles, including a dozen featured and good articles. While I fully understand that there are differences in policies and MOS across different Wikipedias, I believe this demonstrates my credibility and knowledge in assessing article quality.— Prince of Erebor(The Book of Mazarbul) 13:18, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

I have made some very high quality articles (Aston Martin DB9 FA and Aston Martin Rapide at FAC) so I am very familiar with what content is reliable and what is not. I have reverted vandalism (in fact, reverting vandalism was the first edit I made) and whenever i seen vandalism, I take extreme pride in reverting it. Best 750h+ 13:28, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello User:750h+ . Nice seeing you here! From a quick look at your contributions, it seems like you usually don't leave a warning when reverting vandalism nor an semi-automated edit summary. It's very easy to do with tools like WP:Twinkle. Could you start warning editors? —Femke 🐦 (talk) 12:46, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

I have watched listed several article that have been protected as "pending changes" such as Charizard and Woody (Toy Story) and I would love to have an option to accept their edits if its constructive. 🍕Boneless Pizza!🍕 (🔔) 01:27, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

I've been editing Wikipedia since 2004 and have been mainly working on articles about New Zealand, musical instruments, and wine. I've helped build several articles up to GA (cimbasso, serpent, contrabass trombone, soprano trombone) and reviewed several others. It would be good to be able to approve pending useful contributions to protected articles; the current article that prompted this request is the trombone article, which I'd also like to work on. I have been editing the English Wikipedia for about five years now, and have made approximately 7,300 edits. I am an active user, and currently monitor around 1400 pages. I also have a good understanding of the relevant policies and the guideline on reviewing; per the criteria to receive this permission. Demetrios1993 (talk) 02:18, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

I'm applying for rollback rights in order to help with my current recent changes patrolling. With rollback rights, I will gain access to more advanced counter-vandalism tools like AntiVandal and Huggle. I have been patrolling for about a month and made plenty of AIV reports (all of which were successful). BerryForPerpetuity (talk) 12:38, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

I patrol a lot at RC, have made 216 edits, constantly warns users of vandalism, does not edit war. I'm not part of the CVU, but i revert vandalism quite a lot. DANGA14talk 12:21, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

- Not done per above. I noticed you started actively reverting vandalism a little over a week ago. While I appreciate your enthusiasm, I'd like to see you spend more time gaining experience fighting vandalism before assigning you advanced permissions. Keep up the good work, and consider reapplying in a month. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits (I recommend using tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet which makes this extremely easy). Thanks, Fastily 21:31, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

I've been active at recent changes for more than 3 months to help revert vandalism and report AIV, which is successful. Rollback rights need access to a counter-vandalism tool. HirowoWiki (talk | contribs) 01:21, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- A few concerns:
- A couple of days ago, you were warned about misleading edits summaries wrt this edit. Please explain, in your own words, why this edit was inappropriate.
- I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3). Why? Are you aware that we have tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet that make this extremely easy?

- I forgot to leave a warning message. Also, I made a misleading edit summary and not a typo. HirowoWiki (talk | contribs) 21:47, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello. I am re-applying for template editor rights, which I was granted on a temporary basis by Primefac (permalink) on 24 February; it is about to expire at 00:00, on 24 May. As I promised in my original request back in February, and as can be seen, I didn't misuse this right in any way. I used it in a very responsible manner, on a periodical basis, and I'm no longer obliged to bother others with template-protected edit requests, and basically have them to do my work for me when it comes to HRTs. Naturally, I would prefer if this right is extended on a permanent basis, but that is up to admins to decide. — Sundostund mppria (talk / contribs) 13:23, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

There are a number of highly visible protected templates inside my bots' userspace that I'd like to be able to modify again now that I am no longer an admin:
