Transliteration norms[edit]

I'm using User:Nederlandse Leeuw/Early Cyrillic quickref, adapted from Early Cyrillic alphabet#Alphabet. These are the transcription principles I will prefer:

  1. to generally prefer the International (Int.) system, unless ALA-LC has a better option;
  2. to be unambiguous/precise: if two different Cyrillic letters are transcribed the same according to either Int. or ALA-LC, prefer whichever transcribes them differently, e.g. prefer Int. x instead of Int. ch or ALA-LC kh for Х х;
  3. to use as few non-Latin letters and as few diacritics as possible for non-expert readability, e.g. prefer ALA-LC zh instead of Int. ž for Ж ж.
  4. #2 takes precedence over #3, e.g. prefer ALA-LC ī instead of Int. i for І і / Ї ї.

This means preferring ALA-LC over Int. in 10 cases, but otherwise following Int.
