Confused about the early days[edit]

In the original toy line and its comic book insert "The Tale of Teela", there were actual two characters named Teela -- one was The Goddess who protected Greyskull and the other was a clone of The Goddess who was the Captain of Eternia's Royal Guard. For the TV show, Teela was split into two more distinctive characters: Teela the Captain of the Royal Guard and The Sorceress (changed from The Goddess as to avoid the wrath of religious advertisers, with the Teela name dropped entirely, and the scary cobra motif was changed to a falcon theme). The original Teel toy had removable snake armor, so children could use the figure as The Goddess or the heroic clone Teela.

The mini-comics go through several subtle continuity changes, usually to align with what was planned/shown in the cartoon. I thought that:

a) The name was changed to "The Sorceress" for the second series of mini-comics (which includes The Tale of Teela) b) Originally Teela was meant to be the Goddess of Castle Grayskull (and presumably the costume under the armour was for modesty given the target of the toyline) - or were they separate in the first series of mini-comics? c) The Captain of the Royal Guard didn't come about until the cartoon. d) Once two separate characters were running around in the mini-comics, only He-Man's mortal ally was called "Teela".

Is anyone able to confirm and source this? Timrollpickering 02:15, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Having now had a chance to check "The Tale of Teela" I must admit to some errors:
a) The name in the very first mini comics is "The Sorceress" but at some point it changes to "The Goddess" and later changes back. But "The Sorceress" definitely predates Filmation.
b) Teela and the Sorceress/Goddess are both present as separate beings in the very first mini-comic.
c) This still appears to be the case.
d) The name Teela is given to the Goddess in "The Tale of Teela" but that seems mainly to explain the overlap.
