Issues[edit]

I reviewed this article for DYK nomination. Following issues need to be clarified or corrected:

  • The article is classified as a stub on Talk page. Reassess it.
It has been reassessed. RRD (talk) 11:47, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed the date of reassessment.-Nizil (talk) 13:50, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • According to MOS:LEADLENGTH, the article should have short one or two para lede. Information about his family should be covered only in main text and emphasis in lede should be only on her.
It has been modified. There is only one mention of Abu Ghani as all of his family members' career is based on his "legacy" and they seek votes and campaign in his name. RRD (talk) 11:47, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The lede should focus on her career. A sentence about his boyfriend is unnecessary. Shorten the paragraph. For example: Born in political family, she joined politics and elected as an MLA of Malda constituency when her mother and an incumbent MLA of Malda, Rubi Noor died. She was elected to Loksabha from XYZ constituency. She left INC and joined TMC in January 2019. All other details should go in the article.-Nizil (talk) 13:50, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There is no such policy which discourages putting such information in lead. Even Featured Articles like Benjamin Disraeli, Alec Douglas-Home, P. K. van der Byl, Neville Chamberlain etc have such information in lead. RRD (talk) 15:47, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There is no issue regarding what you choose to be in the lead. I believed that lead is long compared to the article. So I suggested a short one.-14:02, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
  • According to WP:NOTNEWS and WP:BLOATED, a lot of unnecessary details need to be trimmed.
    • For example: Upon joining the party, Noor said "I am inspired by Didi [Banerjee]. I'll work under her guidance for the development of the state. We have to fight against the BJP and I am quite confident that the TMC [Trianmool Congress] will win all the 42 seats in West Bengal in the coming Lok Sabha elections".[27] In a press conference, Pradesh Congress President Somen Mitra said that she was an opportunist and would loose the upcoming election. She became the first ever sitting MP of the Congress party to join Trinamool. This sentence is not required and is excessive detail.
Except the first sentence, the entire quote has been removed. Somen Mitra's statement has also been removed. However, the last sentence which you mentioned is a fact and is supported by reliable source. RRD

(talk) 11:47, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

First sitting Congress MP to join TMC is bit of a trivia. Politicians change parties. Nothing important in being the first to switch from X to Y party. I think it is not important info.-Nizil (talk) 13:50, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As I have previously stated, it is a fact supported by a reliable source. Politicians changing parties is not as much frequent as much it is shown and hyped by the media. Few such instances are exaggerated by the media. Also in this case, she is a sitting MP. RRD (talk) 15:47, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think that switching parties is nothing new. So including here as "first" unnecessary. I agree that it is supported by RS but unnecessary thing to be here.-Nizil (talk) 14:02, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Removed. RRD (talk) 15:17, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • More examples: In August 2018, Noor wrote letters to both Commmunist Party of India (Marxist) and Trinamool Congress, requesting them to support to her party's panchayat members to form panchayat governments in villages where Congress party had a simple majority. In return, she promised that her party would also support these two parties to form panchayat government in villages where they had a simple majority. She said that she wanted to prevent Bharatiya Janata Party, a "comunnal political party" to form panchayat governments in villages. She also said that she had taken this decision keeping in mind the need to create a grand alliance of political parties under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi ahead of the 2019 Indian general election., In that rally, 14 panchayat members and one councillor of English Bazaar joined Trinamool., Following her win, student groupsfrom Malda wrote to the party president Sonia Gandhi and demanded that a ministry must be given to Noor. These are also unnecessary bloating.
Writing letters part - This is not "excessive detail", although some part has been removed. This information shows her political ideology and inclinations. Also, Noor hails from a district which is largely rural, so it shows one of her political decisions. RRD (talk) 11:47, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like news coverage. Better have a clear information on her political ideology.-Nizil (talk) 13:50, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Will do it. RRD (talk) 15:47, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Panchayat members joining Trinamool - it has now been edited. RRD (talk) 11:47, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Student groups part - removed. RRD (talk) 11:47, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There are many more sentences to remove or shorten. The article should not look like collection of news. For example: Subsequently Trinamool leader Partha Chatterjee invited her to join the party. However, later in that month, while speaking to a local news channel, she ruled out joining Trinamool. seems unnecessary. I think copyedit by other editor will remove a lot of detailed info.-Nizil (talk) 13:50, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I suggest to request a copyediting by someone else if you are not sure what to remove/change. You may request at WP:GOCE for it. I fear that copyediting may reduce the size of article and there could be below 5x expansion. So be careful.
Already, it has been listed. I also tried my best. RRD (talk) 11:47, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for listing. Once CE is carried out, ping me. I will re-review the copyedited article.
An editor has copyedited the article. RRD (talk) 16:00, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • There are some minor neutrality issues as well. For example: use of word emerged victorious instead of won.
Fixed. RRD (talk) 11:47, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is she still an MP after switching the party? Or she resigned?
Well, I also have the same doubt. However, her name is listed at the official website of Lok Sabha. RRD (talk) 11:47, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Loksabha list is not updated regularly but as new election are due in May 2019. The INC may not have acted to remove her as an MP. If you find a source indicating her resignation, do update.-Nizil (talk) 13:50, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Please resolved the above issues and ping me if you have any query. Regards,-Nizil (talk) 05:54, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nizil Shah: I have addressed the issues raised. RRD (talk) 11:47, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Royroydeb: Thank you for all the changes and taking them positively. I will re-review the article after copyediting. It may take some time so we need to wait. I have pointed out some issues to be addressed meanwhile. Regards,-Nizil (talk) 13:50, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nizil Shah: I was inactive for a long time because of Saraswati Puja. I have made the necessary changes. RRD (talk) 16:00, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have left comments above but I wont stop DYK approval for it. It is about what should/should not covered so nothing problematic. Full review soon.-Nizil (talk) 14:02, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
