Something Missing

Great. It appears while you people have been squabbling and frantically editing to include/not include Michael Carrick, the entire list of 2006/07 transfers has been edited out of the page?

Why wasn't it edited back in you ask? Because all the people who usually resolve the vandalism were making sure that Michael Carrick was only added to the squad at the correct time.

While I haven't dug out the exact diff, I presume it was deliberate, particularly considering the line "For recent transfers, see the "Transfer Deals" section of 2006-07 in English football." In any case, Wikipedia is not a news service. Oldelpaso 12:17, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

You could always keep transfers for the current year on the main page, and then once the season has passed, move it onto a seasonal recap page like this. I noticed that Manchester United, despite its legions of wikifans and anoraks fails to have a detailed encyclopaedic reference for its various seasons as other teams. I was thinking the same thing, it seems like an obscure off-topic reference to me. Only one of the other top 10 clubs in the premiership has a culture references section, an to be honest, Boring boring Arsenal prolly do need something to liven up their page :-p Joking aside, I just removed the section from this article, it's obscure in the context and so not very encyclopaedic. If anyone has a good reason for it's inclusion feel free to re-add it and comment here on why. Jastein 23:48, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Tomasz Kuszczak

While The transfer of Tomasz Kuszczak involves the keeper coming to Old Traffod "on loan" for the 2006/07 season, he will join Manchester United permanently in July 2007, and remain contracted until 2010. As part of the deal, Luke Steele was recalled from his loan at Coventry and shipped off to West Brom alongside defender Paul McShane, who have both signed permanent deals with the Baggies. There has been no disclosure whether any financial compensation is due to either team in order to complete the transfer in July 2007. I think David Gill has something to say about the transfer here. Keeping the player on loan for the year gives United an escape clause should he perform poorly or become injured, enabling them to cancel the pre-contract without having to pay the player to release him. 69.158.64.187 22:29, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Famous Former Players

Should we have some form of criteria as to who appears here? Today players like Robbie Savage have been added - never anything more than a reserve for United. Maybe players with 100+ appearances or some form of notable historic impact, such as the Busby Babes or scoring winning goals in European Champions League finals? Fd2006 19:56, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

It all depends on the definition of "famous former players", currently it's "famous players who at one point played for Manchester United", what you're suggesting is "players who were famous for playing at united". Is there a general consensus on which it should be? I think that the latter is more encyclopaedic, although that's just my personal opinion. Jastein 20:43, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Strongest Line Up

I don't really see how this can work. I can kind of see the merit of it, in that it shows people who have no idea who could be considered the key players, BUT it is very much opinion based. Personally I have seen nothing to suggest that Vidic is better than Brown for example, and while Giggs is great on the left, he can't play every match and he might not be the best option out there any more. Rivalries

Is this really needed? Bayern Munich a major rival? Why not just list every European club. It's Liverpool. Leeds. Bitters. In that order.

I think a note on rivalries is a good idea for the obvious ones, but I agree, Bayern and Real hardly count as rivals, merely decent opposition. I have removed the last sentence unless someone can come up with a good reason for having it. Harrias 08:45, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Sponsors AIG interfering with management of club?

"The new sponsors have already received some criticism for interfering with the management of the club, after Ferguson was instructed to end talks with Villarreal's midfielder Marcos Senna, as they prefered the club to invest in only English talent, a move some others agree with."

I'm not too sure about this. AIG's involvement was what Senna claimed prevented his move; so far I haven't seen too many articles on that.
