List[edit]

At some point in the future, we might consider forking out List of LGBT-owned businesses. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:48, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hah, I was just on my way to the talk page with the exact same thought. I just made it a sub-section for now. Raladic (talk) 20:56, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm enjoying this collaboration. Thanks for contributing! I am fine with keeping the US-specific list as a subsection for now, but I think if we start adding similar lists for other countries, then we should consider forking out a list sooner than later, otherwise this page will become long quick! ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:00, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yup agreed. I've mainly focused on adding actual content that discussed queer-owned businesses as a topic so far, other than tagging a few of the businesses and adding wikilinks.
This is actually an interesting article and finding all the resources that exist for queer owned businesses has been quite revealing. Raladic (talk) 21:50, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes! Hoping to learn from what other editors add about other countries, too ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:54, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is "List of LGBT-owned businesses in Another Believer's hometowns", not a good representative list. The Venn diagram is obviously not perfect, but Category:LGBT drinking establishments has 260 items. Putting them in a list here like this is unnecessary. Reywas92Talk 17:40, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I welcome additions to the list, assuming there's sourcing to confirm LGBT ownership (which is not the same as an LGBT establishment). ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:43, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"List of notable LGBT-owned businesses in the United States"[edit]

What is the criteria of inclusion on this list, are all of these business still open? Are we also naming business that were once LGBT-owned (and maybe we don’t know in 2024). I am asking for clarification because I can think of more notable LGBT-owned business that already have WP articles that could be added here, however some are closed and/or some might have new ownership. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 04:35, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally the list appears to represent the coastal areas of the United States. At the very least the section title could be changed to "List of notable LGBT-owned businesses in the East and West Coasts of the United States" Myotus (talk) 04:59, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Then add entries for other regions. ---Another Believer (Talk) 12:01, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Normally very good advice and good advice to me where I am from (Minneapolis). I will see what I can do to add Minneapolis businesses. However, very few cities have the media outlets the Seattle or Minneapolis markets have and none have the media empire New York City has. Wikipedia's set up is in inherently biased against resource poor cities and rural areas. My concern is that instead of assisting and helping expand coverage of resource poor cities and rural areas, the Wikipedia communities in resource abundant communities are using their privileges to gild-the-lily for their own communities by over-covering, promoting, and in general creating questionable articles of questionable worth but "Notable" due to the extensive press they can get in a media rich city and a dearth of local Wikipedia editors to champion for it. This is rather evident in many of Wikipedia's articles including its LGBTQI+ articles. While it is undeniable of the importance and relevance of history and influence of the LGBTQI+ communities in cities like San Francisco and New York City, not only do articles on the topic minimalize a world view of the subject, they over focus on the urban areas of the West and East Coasts with little to few references to the middle of the country. Unlike gender bias and racial bias created by systemic conditions and by Wikipedia's own editors' views, it has yet to acknowledge the urban bias which creates the issues in this article and others like in in Wikipedia. I do believe if articles are only covering the East and West Coasts of the United States the titles and subsection titles should accurately reflect that until remedied. @Myotus Thanks for expanding the list. However, I've added "citation needed" tags to most of the newly added entries because the articles do not specifically say the businesses are LGBT-owned. Nor are they in the category Category:LGBT-owned businesses. Please add citations confirming LGBT-ownership, if possible. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:11, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding citations. I've removed the non-notable entries, but feel free to add back if articles are created. I've added tried adding the LGBT ownership category appropriately. Thanks again for helping to expand this list! ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:52, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
