Moved to mainspace by Remsense (talk). Self-nominated at 03:36, 26 November 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/History of Qing (People's Republic); consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.[reply]

  • Glad to see you finished this one! I think the first hook is the strongest by a large amount here. The Zhao Ma source checks out, and even within the bounds of machine translation the second source appears to check out as well. Article is in a good shape (albeit needing images!) - Generalissima (talk) 03:44, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

  • I would've really liked to use an image of Dai Yi, but there are no free-use ones available from any point in his life.
  • Per the DYK notes, I tried to find an image of the plenary session that approved the project in 2002, but I've had no luck here so far either.
  • Other than that, my best tries were various promotional/representational images of other publications by the IQH as are used on Chinese news articles about this topic.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated! Remsense 18:54, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I managed to find a free-use picture of Dai Yi. I see you said "from any point in his life"--this picture is from 1941 and thus free-use, but he would have been 15 at the time, so I'm not really sure if it would be relevant/useful to include in this article or the one dedicated to him. This is the image source I found: https://new.qq.com/rain/a/20240204A01IX600, and the direct link to the image: https://inews.gtimg.com/om_bt/Oyu5UnE7AdYeP1e_SWlx_z60qIL3I8H0vM__o_aklWu9UAA/641 Spacemarine22 (talk) 12:00, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my goodness, you are my hero! Thank you so much, I really was bummed I couldn't find one. Since he passed away recently it became more possible to include other pictures of him on his own page, but I was stuck since we're generally not allowed to use non-free images on pages that aren't direct about the thing pictured in the non-free image. I'm glad I could help! I have gone ahead and uploaded it to Wikimedia Commons here. I would love to add it to the article myself but I honestly really don't know the best way to do that. Edit: and a cropped version here. Spacemarine22 (talk) 05:20, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Name of the Article[edit]

I see my move was reverted, and I agree that there's not a high chance that "People's Republic" vs "People's Republic of China" would be confusing. However, this is the only article on Wikipedia that has only "People's Republic" as a disambiguator. Wouldn't it be better to use "People's Republic of China", "China" (the most common disambiguator for the PRC), or even just nothing at all since there are no other "History of Qing" articles? Spacemarine22 (talk) 04:18, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are overfocusing on the specifics of structure in disambiguators while losing sight of their actual purpose a bit.

this is the only article on Wikipedia that has only "People's Republic" as a disambiguator. Wouldn't it be better to use "People's Republic of China"

This isn't really a factor in how we decide article titles; rather, you should prioritize the factors discussed throughout our naming policy.

even just nothing at all since there are no other "History of Qing" articles?

And this is incorrect, oh dear! Draft History of Qing makes both (China) and no disambiguator ill-advised imo. Just because its name is not written using an identical convention does not mean simply "History of Qing" would not create confusion with it. Remsense 05:12, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, the Republic of China government also officially published the History of Qing in 1961 after it retreated to Taiwan. See Twenty-Four Histories#Modern attempts at creating the official Qing history for more information. There is also a corresponding article in Chinese Wikipedia. --Wengier (talk) 16:20, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
