Later incarnations[edit]

We say the band disbanded in 1976, but also list the current members. I think what happened is that the classic lineup disolved but Cody kept performing under the same name and with a mix of original and new members. I know they also had at least one reunion gig with most of the original members. I'll see if I can find sources for any of this. Kendall-K1 (talk) 16:48, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a current lineup of Commander Cody's band? I don't seem to be finding one online. Indeed, it seems a bit tricky to find good references for who was in the later band lineups in general, ignoring write-ups that seem to have been based on this article. The Lost Planet Airmen disbanded in 1976, apparently. After that George Frayne performed live and/or released albums as Commander Cody, the Commander Cody Band, and Commander Cody and his Western Airmen. The 2009 Commander Cody album Dopers, Drunks, and Everyday Losers has Steve Barbuto on drums, Mark Emerick on guitar, Randy Bramwell on bass, Chris Olsen on pedal steel guitar, and Professor Louie on keyboards. And here's a 2019 concert review in Elmore magazine, of a concert by Commander Cody and his Western Airmen, with, in addition to Mr. Frayne, Steve Barbuto on drums, Tim Eshliman on bass, and Sean Allen on guitar and pedal steel. And I can't find anything about the allegedly interim Greg Irwin. So, yeah. I'm not sure what to think. But it would probably be good to update the member list in the infobox of this article, as well as in the Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen navbox. Thoughts? I'm thinking the best approach would be to restrict the navbox to the members of the classic lineup of the Lost Planet Airmen, and to have the infobox list all the musicians that we can confidently assert were members of any of the Commander Cody bands. I think it would also be best for the text of the article not to say who the current band members are, unless we can reliably document that. Mudwater (Talk) 20:53, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've made those changes. Mudwater (Talk) 22:38, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can we add a timeline?[edit]

This page needs a members timeline because it could generally will improve the page. Easyrider77 (talk) 19:08, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bobby Black (steel player)[edit]

I started a rudimentary article on Bobby Black (the steel player in the band from 1971-1974) in my sandbox. Any experienced editors in this area want to improve it and get it up and running? I used Bill Kirchen's article as a template, so there may be some stuff in there that doesn't really apply to Bobby Black. But, hey - it's a start. - Special-T (talk) 13:54, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's currently at Draft:Robert Lee Black - Special-T (talk) 00:11, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Special-T: Thanks. One quick thought: The article should probably be called "Bobby Black (musician)". See WP:COMMONNAME and WP:NCDAB for why. Mudwater (Talk) 01:36, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - I've never created an article before, and I didn't name it, so it was automatically named according to the first line. - Special-T (talk) 02:42, 30 May 2024 (UTC) Special-T (talk) 02:42, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
