This is quite confusing as the article's called arab cuisine but it only refers to Gulf Arab states. Why dont you merge other arab cuisine articles(like n.african, syrian etc) into this one

This page is so far from finished, I edited a small portion, it needs a lot of work though. For starters the bedouin are not exclusive to Saudi Arabia. --Alsharifa 15:41, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

I have moved the information about the specific Gulf cuisine to a new article Arab Gulf cuisine and retained this one for the wider diversity of Arab cuisine.

I have added a little bit about specific Arab cuisines.

Pork

Even Arab Chirstians don't eat that much pork. I removed it, unless there is an authentic and trustworthy citiation that says so, Prok is not an ingredient. --Maha Odeh 09:36, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Iraq an Atab country?

I have noticed that the article did not mention the Saudi cuisine. The Saudi cuisine is quite diversified due to the fact that the country is fairly extensive. Unfortunately, the Saudi traditional dishes are found to be rather local even between the provinces in the country, not to mention the Arabic World. I believe this is largely attributed to the fact mentioned above about the country size as well as the lack of an effective promotion. Please read about the following traditional dishes popular in some Saudi provinces:

1- Kabsa كبسة. The most popular food in Saudi Arabia. 2- Marquq مرقوق. Quite popular in Alqassim,Hail and Riyadh regions. 3- Saleeq سليق. AL-Taif city and throughout Macca region. 4- Hanith حنيذ. growing to gain populacity, originally from the southern region. 5- Asidah عصيدة. Very popular in Al-baha and Assair regions. 6- Gareesh جريش. Pupolar in Alqaseem region.

alot of changes for egyptian food hapits

Somalia

Interesting section on Somali cuisine, but as this page is about Arab cuisine, should Somali cuisine be included here? It would make perfect sense if the article was about Islamic cuisine, but I suspect Somali cuisine should be on a different page. RantingMrP (talk) 09:03, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Somalia is an Arab state and is part of the Arab world. Hence, why its cuisine has been included in this article alongside those of other Arab states. Middayexpress (talk) 17:35, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

"Arab cuisine" vs "Arabian cuisine"

Why is the article titled "Arab cuisine"? The use of Arab here is possibly more offensive and incorrect than the phrase used at the beginning of the article: "Arabian cuisine". For comparison consider "Turk cuisine" vs "Turkish cuisine". Arab is a noun, not adjective. Arabian is an adjective. It does not necessarily refer to the horse. Furthermore, the construction of the phrase in its native language (Arabic) strongly points to "Arabian" being the grammatically correct choice in translation. 182.191.225.186 (talk) 17:58, 14 May 2016 (UTC)codecharming

It's not remotely offensive or incorrect, and Arab has been used as an adjective in English for centuries, according to the OED. Apparently this person didn't even try to google that before breaking into a rant... [1], [2], etc. --IamNotU (talk) 20:52, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

North Africa

North African cuisine doesn't belong to the Middle East category, so let's not change people's geography and insist on not adding their region. Also ancient dishes that belong to a country shouldn't be falsely removed. Anyone making certain edits should discuss the reason, not corrupting the page without any justification or summary. Sorting cuisines

Per User talk:Foodiebest, there's a dispute on whether Egypt and the Levant should be covered in the "Bedouin" section. That seems a little strange to me; both Egypt and the Levant have a mostly settled population, not predominantly a Bedouin population (e.g. about 10% of the population of Syria are Bedouins - which makes the remaining 90% non-Bedouins). I don't see why we shouldn't elevate those topics to level 3 headings. Huon (talk) 20:59, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Categorization

Per User talk:Foodiebest, there's a dispute on the categrization of this page. I do not see that it belongs in Category:North African cuisine. While there are many North African dishes discussed in this article, Arab cuisine is not a subset of North African cuisine but covers a much broader range. If one were to ignore Berber cuisine, one could argue that North African cuisine is Arab cuisine and should be categorized as such - but the converse clearly doesn't hold. Exactly, quoting you: it "includes North Africa", then why you delete the North African category?.
And no absolutely not Ma'am, i am the one adding the North African category to the Arab Cuisine page which mean they are indeed part of the Arab league. You are the one insisting on passing them as Middle Easterners, even though they aren't Middle Eastern countries. Foodiebest (talk) 21:38, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Ancient dishes

Per User talk:Foodiebest and above, there is a dispute about the inclusion of "ancient dishes". I compared the revisions of this page and can't quite tell what those ancient dishes are supposed to be; I assume what's meant is the table entitled "Dishes" in this revision. To me that looks redundant to the gallery following it; both effectively are images of dishes with links to the articles on the dishes. I'd say the gallery is already rather long; if individual dishes should be added or replaced, I'd like to see an explanation before giving an opinion. Adding images of all Arab dishes we have images and articles of is too much for this page, which is meant to describe the cuisine in general terms. Huon (talk) 21:22, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

I have removed some images(foods that are not well-known) from the article. There is still 17 images!. If there is one image of a whole Arab food table would be great instead of all of these images.--SharabSalam (talk) 21:46, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

We're not in court to look every time for something to prove that I am wrong, and I don't need to justify everything. I have moved the image to the Levant section in order to complete the vacuum and improve the sections. Sarah Schneuwly -Schneider (talk) 22:20, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
(edit conflict) I saw the diff, but there are lots of changes in that diff, and as I said, I couldn't tell what, specifically, you meant. I rather don't think that adding falafel to the Egypt section was the primary reason for the revert. However, there are two problems with the image and its caption: Firstly, this article is about Arab cuisine, and the history of falafel before it became a part of Arab cuisine isn't all that relevant. Secondly, falafel by now has spread rather widely and is not (and for a long time has not been) exclusive to Egypt. Dishes that are common in Arab cuisine beyond a specific country or region should probably not be used to illustrate a regional variety of Arab cuisine - something that's "typically Egyptian" would likely be better for the Egypt section than something that's widespread but originated in Egypt long ago. Huon (talk), I solved this problem. I removed Egypt and the Levant from the Bedouin category, also relocated Falafel image between both Egypt and the Levant (+ providing a reliable source that it's the National Dish of Egypt). Also the other point of confusion here is that the Maghreb is North Africa not the Middle East, so i don't know why their region should be removed eventhough they are part of this page. I fully agree with your point of view, the page is designed to classify the food according to countries (regions) and their national dishes, hence the mistake.
