Source for DWP 0870 number charging claim[edit]

I have reworded the sentence to remove the rhetorical question, however the point still remains that after 10 minutes of searching the Department of Work and Pensions website, I cannot find a single 0870 number. I think you would be hard pressed to find any government websites (aside from the DVLA) that make use of 0870 numbers. However, nearly every one of them uses 0845 numbers. ~~ [Jam]^[talk] 23:38, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking for statements for confirm that : "It is claimed that calls to Welfare Benefit Claim and Retirement Pension lines are being charged in this way, which many may find objectionable". There certainly seems to be a case of someone who did in that note, yes? Point of View Check[edit]

I added a PoV check template to this article - I don't expect to see phrases like "the UK government (who increasingly are using them for additional stealth tax purposes)" in an encyclopaedia article, especially with no source given. While references for the costs of calls are given, many of the main points of the article are one-sided and unsourced, e.g.

"Ofcom and BT for years disputed that this "revenue sharing" with NGNs was in effect identical to that for Premium calls. However they have both now publicly admitted that it is the same as with Premium calls. Indeed Ofcom have decided to make a complete "u" turn by transferring the regulation of 0871 numbers to PayphonePlus (which was previously ICSTIS) which regulates all UK Premium numbers, therefore admitting that 0871 is in reality a Premium number - but allowing call queuing to continue."

"There is increasing consumer opposition to 0870 numbers due to this per minute revenue sharing, most of all because call queuing is permitted whilst charging and thus revenue generation continues."

Merge with 0845 number and non-geographical telephone numbers articles[edit]

I suggest a merge with the 0845 number and Non-geographical telephone numbers in the UK articles - There is a lot of duplication, and the Non-geographical telephone numbers in the UK appears to be the better base to start from. Birkett (talk) 09:57, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's probably not a bad idea. The content of both pages (0870 and 0845 number respectively) have spiralled out of content, and bringing them down to short sections within the Non-geographic numbers page is probably a good idea. I had been planning for a while to re-write the 0845 page, to include information about 0844 and 0843 numbers, but never got around to it... ~~ [Jam]^[talk] 18:51, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
