Biography[edit]
Hitotsuyanagi Yoriaki was born on July 15, 1858, the third son of the 8th lord of the domain, Hitotsuyanagi Yorisugu. The identity of his mother remains unknown, adding mystery to his lineage. In February 1868, Yoriaki traveled to Kyoto for his ailing father and returned to his domain by April. After his father's death on December 7, 1869, Yoriaki inherited the clan estate and became Imperial Governor, also earning the title of Jugoi. In 1871, Yoriaki was dismissed due to the dissolution of feudal domains and the establishment of prefectures. He retired in June 1874, passing on his responsibilities to his younger brother Hitotsuyanagi Tsugumune. Yoriaki joined a branch clan of the Hitotsuyanagi clan in 1885. He died at the age of 63 on January 16, 1920, leaving behind a legacy marked by transitions in the socio-political landscape.
