Dr. Chan Sze Chi (Chinese: 陈士齐, 1957-), known as "Zhai(斋) Sir," is a Hong Kong religious scholar who often discusses current affairs and is one of the founders of the League of Social Democrats. He has taught in the Department of Religion and Philosophy of Hong Kong Baptist University for over 20 years and is a senior lecturer there.

Life[edit]
Chen Shiqi was born in 1957 and attended Queen's College, Hong Kong. During his middle school years, he converted to Christianity. In 1977, he enrolled in the Department of Biology at the University of Hong Kong. From 1980 to 1983, he worked as a teacher at Zheng Zhizhi Middle School. In 1984, he served as a staff member of the College Department of the Christian Student Evangelical Fellowship. In 1985, he studied for a Bachelor's degree in Shinto at the University of Aberdeen in the UK. After returning to Hong Kong in 1992, he taught in the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Hong Kong Baptist University for over 20 years. I obtained a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Systematic theology from King's College London in 1997.[1]
Chen Shiqi is also willing to participate in social movements in Hong Kong. He is the founder of List of political parties in Hong Kong League of Social Democrats . He later withdrew from the League of Social Democrats due to disagreements with Wong Yuk-man, becoming a Pro-democracy camp (Hong Kong) independent. [2]Regarding the issue of how the church participates in politics, he believes that Christians should use the influence of the church to engage in dialogue with governments, politicians, and political groups and even engage in formal and practical political participation through confrontation. [3]He left the mainstream church to serve and instead led social movements due to his opposition to the mainstream evangelical stance on homosexuality issues in Hong Kong. Chen Shiqi is also a consultant and organizer for many Hong Kong LGBTQ organizations and the Christ Road Church. Pastor Leung Chun Pei of the church also pointed out that he has conducted in-depth research on the LGBTQ community in Hong Kong for many years, supporting LGBTQ individuals in defending their rights and legalizing same-sex marriage. He has also assisted multiple LGBTQ organizations in Hong Kong and on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and has published numerous research articles on LGBTQ sociology.[4]

Chen Shiqi's wife is a senior social worker named Huo Yulian. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Hong Kong in 1982. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in Shinto from the University of Aberdeen in the UK in 1988. Huo Yulian has served as the editor-in-chief of Olive magazine and has written articles for Breakthrough, Scream, Middle School Monthly, and college student publications. His works include "Love between Two Places" and "Looking at the North Sea," and his translations include "Pursuing Excellence," "Living in the Holy Spirit," "The Faith of the Ancestors," and so on.
