Akbar Sidhique N P is an Indian Professional footballer from Malappuram, Kerala, who currently plays for Wayanad United FC in the Kerala Premier League and also represents Kerala State Football Team in the Santhosh Trophy[1][2]. He was selected for trials in England for Morecambe FC[3], which is a professional association football club based in Morecambe, Lancashire, England, and competes in the EFL League Two.
Professional Career[edit]
Akbar Sidhique np initiated his football journey at New Soccer Football Academy, Ayikkarapadi, while in the 6th standard. During this period, he honed his skills at the Ayikkarapadi mini stadium. The turning point in Akbar's football career unfolded when he joined NMMHS Chelambra sports hostel for his higher secondary education, a decision that steered him to fully commit to football[4].
During this transformative period, Akbar showcased his talent in the Malappuram district team and the Kerala U19 team, achieving the runner-up position in a significant tournament.
In 2016, Akbar's prowess on the field shone as he played for Prodigy Sports Club U16 in the Youth I League. Post his plus-two education, he became a vital player for Gokulam Kerala FC, contributing to the under-16, under-17, and under-18 teams during the 2017-18 season. Notably, he assumed the captaincy for the Gokulam Kerala FC under-18 team in the Youth I League.
The pinnacle of his achievements came in 2018 when Akbar led his team to victory in the Inter-district Football Championship for Malappuram district, scoring two crucial goals in the final, all while pursuing his degree at NSS College, Manjeri[5]. His football journey continued with stints at MEG football team in Bangalore Super Division[6] and Wayanad United FC in the Kerala Premier League.
During this time, Akbar represented the Calicut University Football Team in the South Zone Inter-University Championship, earning recognition as the best player of the tournament. In 2023, he made history as the only Kerala player selected for a ten-week football training session in the UK during trials organized by English Football club Morecambe FC, supervised by David Hopson, the former scout of Manchester United Football Club[7].
Further acclaim awaited Akbar as he secured a spot in the Kerala Santhosh Trophy 2023-24 team. His remarkable performance included scoring two goals for Kerala in the South Zone qualifying round of the Santhosh Trophy tournament[8]. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the Kerala football team's Bronze medal victory at the 53rd National Games of India (2023-24), securing the third position and leaving an indelible mark in Kerala's football history.
