Poor choice for this category’s name[edit]

I believe this is a poor choice for this category’s name. The word area suggests a measurement of a piece of land.

How about calling it WikiProjects by topic or some such? Ottawahitech (talk) 14:14, 10 June 2016 (UTC)please ping me[reply]

Ottawahitech, I think from context it should be apparent "area" refers to topic area as opposed to land area. "WikiProjects by topic" is an acceptable name though. Harej (talk) 16:09, 10 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Harej: Using context when naming categories is frown upon in my experience: Choose category names that can stand alone, independent of the way a category is connected to other categories. Ottawahitech (talk) 17:48, 10 June 2016 (UTC)please ping me[reply]
Context of the name, I mean. Not context from anything else. Harej (talk) 18:20, 10 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I also would prefer “topic” or “subject”. For me the (momentary) cognitive dissonance on first reading was about geographical areas (i.e. regions of the world) rather than measurement of surfaces, so not quite as far from the intended reading, but I certainly think it could be clearer. Even “field“ would be better, but it’s still a metaphor.—Odysseus1479 04:53, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There is a whole range of categories that gather projects, and I agree with thhe two other ewds that any term other than area - regardless of assumed context, needs a better term. The fact that these categories are ones rarely worked on by general eds makes the stand alone context even more important - the fact that the creator agrees, I believe it should be changed.
