NOAA Fisheries Office for Law Enforcement (OLE) special agent Rich Chesler takes a break from conducting complex criminal and civil investigations to team with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer Ryan Smith onboard the NOAA M/V Titusville for a joint patrol offshore of Cape Canaveral. While the majority of fisheries patrols are conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard and state conservation agencies via Joint Enforcement Agreements, the OLE maintains 19 vessels around the country to conduct a variety of patrols including Protected Resources Enforcement Team (PRET) boardings, protection of our National Marine Sanctuaries, and various undercover operations.
