English: A photograph of the Mothman Statue and surrounding street in Point Pleasant West Virginia. The statue is large and takes up most of the median, with streets on either side. The Mothman is a cryptid well known in the Midwest for his supposed involvement with the Silver Bridge collapse in Point Pleasant West Virginia, which killed 46 people on December 15, 1967. Sightings of the cryptid had been noted for weeks before the disaster, and many believe he was there to warn the town of the impending disaster. Point Pleasant is now a tourist destination for those interested in cryptids, and a museum has been created to document the sightings and events surrounding the bridge collapse.
