Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Living in the Material World (song)
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) The image was inspired by concepts Harrison explored in the lyrics to his song "Living in the Material World". The use of the image presents a visual summary of the song, complements interpretation and discussion of the lyrics, and is supported by a fair amount of critical commentary, by authors Elliot Huntley, Bob Woffinden, Alan Clayson and Dale Allison.
Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
This image is part of Apple Records' design concept for George Harrison's 1973 album, and it is therefore official album artwork. No free content equivalent exists, nor could a free content image be created that would serve the purpose of identifying the song to readers while protecting the interests of the copyright holder of the official image.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) The image is relevant to this article alone, since the composition of the photo was inspired by the song discussed in the article. Aside from some minor cropping (in order to ensure that the image is most effective to readers), the whole image is needed to visually convey the message of the work and its mirroring of themes advanced by Harrison in the song "Living in the Material World". The file is of a size and resolution that will ensure legibility on the page, but not sufficient to permit unauthorised copying that would produce copies of the original LP-size artwork at even average quality.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
The interests of the copyright holder will not be adversely affected since the image is used purely for educational purposes in an encyclopaedic article dedicated to discussing George Harrison's song "Living in the Material World". The article discusses the context in which the song was written; Harrison's inspiration for the song; its composition, and commentator's analysis and interpretation of this; the history and particulars of Harrison's 1973 sound recording; the song's commercial release, including the importance of this image, which was used as part of the promotional package for the song's parent album; its critical reception on release and its legacy in the 21st century. The image is of a size and resolution that allows for legibility on screen but that would not allow for quality copies to be made that would be to the detriment of the copyright holder's commercial interests.
