Facundo Damian Batista is a US-based scientist expert in B cells and antibodies.
Education[edit]
Batista gained an undergraduate degree at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina in 1991. He then gained a PhD at the International School of Advanced Studies in Trieste, Italy in 1995.[1][2]
Career[edit]
He was a tenured member of the Francis Crick Institute in London and a professor at Imperial College London.[1]
Batista is currently a professor of biology at MIT,[2] the chief editor of the EMBO Journal,[3] and an associate director, scientific director, and principal investigator at the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard.[1] He contributes to the Ragon Institute’s mission to learn from the immune system to improve health.[4]
Batista specialises in research into B cells (white blood cells that create antibodies and are a critical part of the immune system),[5] studying their fundamental biology and their applications to immunology and vaccine development.[3] His findings have been published in many leading journals, including Nature, Science, Immunity, The EMBO Journal, Journal of Experimental Medicine, and Nature Immunology.[6]
Awards[edit]
Batista was awarded fellowships at the Academy of Medical Sciences (United Kingdom)[6] and the American Academy of Microbiology.[2]
